How to make a QR code that scans every time
A QR code is just your link written as a pattern of squares. Phone cameras read the pattern and open the link. The code is created in your browser, so your link never leaves your computer.
Before you print it
- Use a dark code on a light background. It’s the combination every scanner understands.
- Keep the blank border. The quiet zone helps the camera find the edges.
- Print it big enough. A good rule is at least 2 cm (0.8 inch) wide, and larger if people scan from a distance.
- Test it with a phone and with more than one scanner app.
- Prefer a short link. Less data means a simpler code that scans faster.
PNG or SVG?
Use PNG for websites, emails and slides. Use SVG for print, such as flyers, packaging and signs. It stays sharp at any size.
Static vs dynamic QR codes
The code you make here is a static QR code: it contains your final web address. If that address ever changes, the printed code breaks, and you can’t see how many people scanned it. A dynamic QR code points to a short tracked link instead, so you can change where it goes and count every scan.
Frequently asked questions
Is this QR code generator really free?
Yes. There’s no account, no watermark and no limit on how many codes you make. The codes you download never expire.
Do QR codes expire?
Static QR codes, like the ones made here, never expire. The code holds your link directly, so it works for as long as that link works. That’s also why you can’t change it later. Dynamic QR codes from paid services can stop working if you cancel, so check before you print.
Can I track how many people scan my QR code?
Not with this one, because it goes straight to your page. To count scans, make the code from a tracked link. Simple Click Tracker Pro does this for you and includes a QR code for every link.
What error correction level should I choose?
Medium is a good default. Choose High if the code will be printed small, put on a surface that gets scuffed, or have a logo placed over it. Higher levels make the code denser.
Is my link sent to your server?
No. The code is generated entirely in your browser. Nothing you type here is uploaded or stored.
QR codes you can change and track
With Simple Click Tracker Pro, every link gets a QR code. Change the destination any time, even after it’s printed, and see how many people scan it.
