UTM builder

Add UTM codes to any link so your analytics show exactly which email, post or video sent the visitor. Also known as a campaign URL builder.

Quick start
A preset fills in the source and medium. You still choose the campaign name.
Where the click comes from, like newsletter or facebook.
The type of channel, like email, social or video.
The promotion this link belongs to.
Usually a paid search keyword.
Tells two links in the same message apart, like top-banner.

Your tagged link

Fill in the required fields to see your link.

What is a UTM code?

A UTM code is a set of short tags, called UTM parameters, added to the end of a web address. When someone clicks, your analytics tool reads the tags and credits the visit to the right campaign. Without them, a lot of traffic from email apps, messaging apps and social apps shows up as “direct” and you can’t tell what worked.

The five parameters

  • utm_source: the specific place the click came from, such as newsletter, facebook or youtube.
  • utm_medium: the kind of channel, such as email, social or cpc.
  • utm_campaign: the promotion or launch the link belongs to.
  • utm_term: an optional keyword, mostly for paid search.
  • utm_content: an optional label to tell similar links apart, such as a banner link and a text link in the same email.

Tips for clean reports

  • Use lowercase only. Analytics tools treat “Email” and “email” as two different values.
  • Pick a naming pattern and stick to it. Write it down so everyone on your team uses the same one.
  • Don’t put UTM tags on links between pages of your own site. They can overwrite the real source of a visit.
  • Keep a list of the links you’ve tagged, so you can find them later.

Frequently asked questions

Do UTM parameters change where my link goes?

No. The visitor lands on the same page. The tags are only read by your analytics tool, and your website ignores them.

Which parameters are required?

Google Analytics expects utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign. Term and content are optional.

What happens if my link already has UTM parameters?

This tool replaces them with the values you enter, so you never end up with duplicates. Other parameters in the address are left as they are, and so is any #section at the end.

Are my links saved anywhere?

No. Everything happens in your browser. The tool only remembers your last source, medium and campaign on your own computer to save you typing.

Can I use UTM links with a link shortener or redirect?

Yes, but check that the shortener keeps the full address, tags included, when it redirects. Simple Click Tracker Pro keeps UTM parameters on tracked links and can add them for you automatically.

Stop tagging links by hand

Simple Click Tracker Pro adds UTM tags to your links for you and counts every click, so you can see which campaigns bring visitors and sales.
